The movement's Sbu Zikode made the comments at a Land Invasion Indaba in Kingsburgh, south of Durban yesterday.

Zikode feels the policy is being promoted because officials fear poor communities have lost confidence in the ruling party.

Meanwhile, KwaZulu-Natal Human Settlements MEC, Ravi Pillay says land expropriation without compensation should not cause panic among communities.

Key stakeholders met to discuss new policy direction that would help intensify the upgrading of the province's informal settlements.

Pillay said his department wants to create a sharper response to land invasion and occupation across the province.

Abahlali told delegates that government needs to plan in advance and cater for those within informal settlements.
