La Lucia residents fed up with failing infrastructure
Updated | By Sandile Zikhali
Homeowners in La Lucia, north of Durban, are demanding proper infrastructure repairs before any further developments begin.
Residents have reported continuous water leaks and burst pipes that have damaged roads in the suburb. The chairperson of the La Lucia Residents’ Organisation, Linzi du Preez, says they have raised the issue with eThekwini several times.
"The area is being swamped with water. Water leaks keeping cropping up everywhere and no matter how many times it gets fixed water always trickles to the surface of the roads", she said.
"When they do repair pipes roads often get damaged and it takes months before roads are repaired again and when you get big storms it gets worse", Du Preez said.
Meanwhile, the municipality has released a notice of temporary water cuts in the area around the La Lucia Mall on Tuesday.
It says water will be cut from 8 in the morning until 4 that afternoon to allow for infrastructure repairs.
