KZN's Zikalala tops ANC NEC list, Ntuli not far behind
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
KZN's former premier and current Cooperative Governance MEC, Sihle Zikalala, has emerged with the highest number of votes, pushing him to top the ANC's National Executive Committee list.
He had resounding approval from voting party delegates with 2 218 votes.
The party's former provincial secretary, Mdumiseni Ntuli, came in with the fourth-highest number of votes at 2 075.
The NEC votes were among the matters still outstanding when the ANC wrapped up its five-day national elective conference at Nasrec in Johannesburg earlier this week.
The conference saw Cyril Ramaphosa clinch a second term as party president.

Political analyst, Protas Madlala, says the impressive backing of Zikalala and Ntuli can be seen as somewhat of a win for the ANC in KZN, which was left licking its wounds after none of its provincial leaders made it onto the top seven.
"I think everyone thought when Sihle [Zikalaka] was ousted as premier, he was out [in the cold]. Mdumiseni [Ntuli] too - he was indeed a strong contender even at national level [for secretary-general position], except that the numbers didn't go his way.
"I have a feeling there was a mood at the conference that something must be done for KwaZulu-Natal after it didn’t get any position within the top seven. Perhaps they thought let’s compensate them as a sign of renewal and a sign of unity."
