KZN's famous blue couch has a new home
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Remember that famous blue couch that was looted during the July unrest last year?
The furniture company that recovered the sofa and refurbished it says it's moving to a new home: the Wylie House Children's Home for vulnerable girls on the Berea.
The Leather Gallery's Springfield store was among numerous businesses targeted during the riots.
Images of one of the looted items - a blue couch valued at almost R70 000 - went viral on social media when pics were taken of two women sitting on the sofa in the streets of an informal settlement.
The store's Nikita Reddy says the headline-grabbing sofa, nicknamed Pablo, was taken on a farewell drive to their Umhlanga stores last week.
People came over to take selfies one last time with the blue couch.
"Initially, when we fund out that Pablo had been looted, we were very upset and we were hurt to see Pablo being taken away from our Springfield branch.
"It was very soon that we realised Pablo had a way of bringing a little bit of humour to a time that was very dark for the entire of KZN and South Africa."
