KZN woman handed life sentence for kidnap, murder
Updated | By Bernadette Wicks
A KZN woman has been jailed for life after being convicted of kidnapping and murdering another woman in September 2017.
The Pietermaritzburg High Court found that 29-year-old Nomphumelelo Khumalo and her aunt - who chose to plead guilty to the charges some time ago - had lured Ziphilile Dlamini into a forest in the Donnybrook area in Hlanganani, where they gagged her and tied her to a tree.
Two days later they had returned with a bush knife and hacked her to death. This, it is believed, after it had emerged that Dlamini had been having an affair with Khumalo's aunt's partner.
Natasha Kara for the NPA in KZN said they welcome the outcome.
"The accused was sentenced to a term of life imprisonment for murder and five years for kidnapping", she said.
"The NPA in KZN welcomes the sentencing and conviction and we hop it sends a strong message to people considering such actions that the justice system will take a very serious stance toward heinous crimes", Kara said.
