KZN welcomes 91 Christmas Day babies

The KZN Health Department says the province welcomed 91 babies on Christmas day, 53 boys and 38 girls.
Health MEC, Nomagugu Simelane, welcomed babies at the Addington Hospital in Durban on Saturday.
Simelane confirmed that the Province’s first Christmas baby, a boy, was born at Durban’s King Edward Hospital, to a 39-year-old mother. She says he arrived at the stroke of midnight, weighing in at 2.82kg.
Simelane says out of 26 mothers who had given birth to Christmas babies by 11am , only one had been vaccinated.
"This is a serious worry. We want to emphasize the fact that even when you are pregnant you still get vaccinated", she said.
"We think that the reason why these mothers were not vaccinated was because they had worries about the vaccine being safe. It is safe and we encourage everyone who is pregnant to get the vaccine because it is in their best interest", Simelane said.
