KZN water crisis: Worry as dry season begins
Updated | By Chanelle Lutchman
Although there's been a slight increase in the level of water at the Hazelemere Dam, water restrictions for the dam's system will remain in place for residents from Verulam, Waterloo and Ballito.
This is according to Umgeni Water's Shami Harichunder who says the level is now at 44%.
Harichunder says water is also being pushed from the uTongati River to the Hazelemere Dam which is helping to stabilise the level.

He says the water in the Umgeni System however continues to drop.
"We are concerned that if water restrictions are not applied and the savings are not achieved, we will be in a serious situation by the end of this year.
"It must also be remembered that we are now entering a period which is a dry season in KZN meaning it's the start of Autumn and it generally does not rain at this time of the year.
"I have been calculating now the amount of rainfall received this month at least and it's far less than what is normally received at this time of the year. So that is quite worrying," he said.
