KZN Transport vows to ramp up truck inspections
Updated | By Nothando Mkhize
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport says it will be conducting regular inspections of trucks on the province's roads.
This is ahead of October Transport Month, which officially kicks off on Saturday.
The operation has been sparked by the rise in crashes involving heavy vehicles in the province.
Speaking during the operation on the R66 between eShowe and uLundi in northern KZN, department spokesperson Kwanele Ncalane says the focus will also be on trucks transporting coal.

"Cabinet and the provincial executive council have directed the MEC and the department to make sure that we sustain these visibilities.
"We will be making sure that throughout the month of October, we enforce the law without fear and favour and we want to make sure that truck owners and truck drivers take responsibility for all the havoc that is being caused on the road.
"We want to make sure that the drivers are fit and that their trucks are thoroughly checked and are roadworthy."
