KZN traffic cop fatally struck by suspected drunk driver

uMhlatuze officials say a traffic cop, who was killed in Empangeni, was hit by a suspected drunk driver.
Officer Ndunduzo Ncanana was part of a team conducting manual speed operations on the N2 this past weekend.
The City of uMhlatuze's Mdu Ncalane says officers had tried to flag down a speeding motorist.
At the same time, another driver tried to evade them.

He says 33-year-old Ncanana, who was sitting next to the speed machine, was struck.
"The SUV could not stop as instructed and veered off the road, clipping a bakkie that was on the left-hand side before hitting officer Ncanana who was on the shoulder of the road with the speed timer. Ncanana was declared dead on the scene.
"The alleged driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol and police have opened a case of negligence and reckless driving. SAPS is also in the process of opening a docket of culpable homicide."
