KZN traditional leadership ‘under attack’ amid two weekend assassinations

The Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs in KZN has called for urgent police action following the murders of two people including the Induna of the Osuthu Traditional Council.
According to police reports Induna Maphemba Ntuli and three others were erecting a tent in Nongoma on Saturday when they were suddenly attacked by gunmen at the community hall who fired multiple shots at them.
Sixty-three-year-old Ntuli and another person died at the scene.
Cogta spokesperson Senzelwe Mzila says the institution of traditional leadership in KZN continues to come under attack.
The circumstances surrounding their deaths are being investigated.
“The MEC (of Cogta Sihle Zikalala) has called for calm, and has called for law enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned to find those that are responsible.”
“Just last month Osuthu Traditional Council laid to rest Iso leSilo Dumisani Khumalo who was assassinated on the 17th of December.
“MEC Zikalala has called on communities to work closely with law enforcement to ensure those who are responsible are apprehended and brought to justice.”
