KZN tourists urged to use water sparingly

Water authorities in KwaZulu-Natal are urging holidaymakers to be mindful of the active water restrictions in some parts of the province.

Five provinces including KZN, the North West, Free State, Limpopo and Mpumalanga have been declared drought disaster areas.
Sembcorp Siza Water last month announced an increase in the restrictions in water supply from 30% to 50% in areas north of Durban including Verulam and Ballito.
Managing Director Shyam Misra says while they want tourists to have a comfortable stay they must use water sparingly.
''If we had to resort to time of use, we ask that you bear with us and within the constraints of the system so that we don't lose reservoirs.
''Basically, it take ages to then reinstate a reservoir into its capacity. So we have to manage the system and at the worst case implement time of use,'' he said.
