UIF Commissioner
Teboho Maruping says KwaZulu-Natal has recorded the highest number of fraud
cases linked to COVID-19 TERS payouts.

The Unemployment Insurance Fund made R64 billion available to provide temporary relief to businesses and their employees after the start of the global pandemic.
Maruping says Gauteng took 49% of the claims followed by the Western Cape with 18%. KZN received 14% of the TERS funds.
He says the province has a history of fraudulent dealings regarding the UIF.

"KZN only took about R9.2 billion
of the R64 billion. So they didn't take the lion's share but they are taking
the lion's share of the fraud cases. I think for us what is concerning is that
even without claims, fraud seems to find its way into this province
somehow."
