KZN teachers to get Covid jab from next week
Updated | By Nothando Mkhize
Teachers in KwaZulu-Natal will start getting vaccinated against Covid-19 next week.
"We will be starting with the educators, but we are only starting vaccinating the educators from the 9th [of June]," said KZN Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu, who was speaking at the King Edward Hospital in Durban on Friday.
"In the process of vaccinating educators, we also don't want to jeopardise the teaching and learning of our children, so that's why it is important we have a proper plan of doing so."
She's also called on members of the provincial legislature to become TB ambassadors.

The department says it's noted a decline in patients fetching their medication and those coming in for screening.
It says this has caused an increase in defaulters since the start of the pandemic.
Simelane-Zulu says with the help of the leaders, the numbers will pick up.
"One of our biggest worries are those that we lose in the system when it comes to treatment in particular that start getting their treatment, but within the six-month period, we lose them for a number of reasons. Some are unable to continue with the treatment because they don't have access to food. Some are unable to continue with the treatment because they say they have side effects."
