A KwaZulu-Natal teacher has died while working at one of the province's matric marking centres.

Provincial education officials say Philani Gumede had been marking scripts at Pietermaritzburg Girls High School when he suddenly fell ill on Tuesday.
Education spokesperson, Muzi Mahlambi says Gumede taught at a high school in northern KwaZulu-Natal.
"He just complained about chest pains. He wanted his tablets to be brought to him. While the tablets and the ambulance were [called for] he collapsed and was certified dead on scene. The family has been contacted about his death," he said.
Mahlambi says MEC Dlungwane has passed on his condolences to Gumede's family, friends and colleagues.
"He has dispatched his officials to [visit] the family," Mahlambi said.
