Key players will sit for a second and final day today to try and get to the bottom of the issue.
The department's Sipho Khumalo says they were saddened to learn that a tertiary student who was seriously injured during a shooting at a taxi rank in the area is now unable to complete his studies.
He says yesterday those attending the summit were split up into groups where they dealt with different issues affecting the sector and community.
''The MEC kicked off his day with a surprise visit to the local police station there especially to assess the station's capability to deal with high levels of crime in the area.
''He was not very happy with the state of the police station. He's going to put together a report that will be submitted to the Provincial Commissioner to see what could be done to upgrade the station so that it they will be able to assist that crime-ridden community,'' he said.
