KZN sugar cane sector receives R14m boost
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The KZN Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has launched a R14-million Sugar Cane Plantation Project on the south coast.

Officials hope the project to be run by local farmers in Mtwalume, north of Port Shepstone will help stimulate the region's economy.
MEC Cyril Xaba says the farmers will further partner with and be guided by the SA Sugar Cane Association.
He says a further R54-million will be pumped into the project to ensure it's sustainable.
"It's a poverty-stricken area. There's no economic activity - nothing whatsoever. So, it's now incumbent on the department to put more hectares under sugar cane to create some economic activity that will generate employment and then bring income into the community," he said.
