However, some problems have arisen in Gauteng, Western Cape and some parts of KwaZulu-Natal.

”Provinces have assured us they are doing everything in their power, so that is why we are appealing to parents to allow provinces to clear off and settle those who have been admitted and those who have no place.

“And from there we will be able to identify any possible places to place learners. I know it is not very comfortable for parents and for learners to know that on Tuesday other learners are going to school and their children are not going to school.

“But we are committing, by law we are compelled to find spaces for every child. So it’s not their burden alone, it’s our responsibility also.”

Motshekga made the remarks at a media briefing on school readiness for the 2022 academic year on Tuesday.

She says strict Covid-19 protocols will remain in place this year.
