Disaster management teams have been dispatched to various areas in the province after heavy storms wreaked havoc and caused a number of damages to households last night.
Many families were left homeless in Bulwer in the KZN Midlands after strong winds ripped their homes.
Several injuries have been reported and the area lost power.
Three northern KZN municipalities have also been severely affected by the storm.
Co-operative Governance department spokesperson Lennox Mabaso, says they've teamed up with other groups to co-ordinate responses on the ground.
"Our teams are on the ground. They are currently working around the clock to ensure that we provide the first line of support to the families affected. We are also going to move to a stage where we will have to quantify the damage.
"At this point in time - we appeal to our citizens to remain on full alert. The weather services are warning - that we will have more inclement weather coming our way," Mabaso said.
