KZN still leads number of new Covid cases - NICD

South Africa's Covid-19 cases are steadily decreasing with 5 885 new cases recorded on Friday.

The National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) reports that the daily positivity rate has now fallen to 10.3 % - the lowest it has been since the start of the third wave.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), a daily positivity rate of 5% is acceptable.
According to data from the National Institute For Communicable Diseases Of South Africa (NICD) KwaZulu-Natal now has the highest number of new cases at 23% of the national average, followed by the Western Cape at 22%, Eastern Cape 16%, Free State 11%, Gauteng 9%, North West 7%, Northern Cape 6%, Mpumalanga 4%, and Limpopo at 2%.
A further 281 new deaths have been recorded, bringing the total number of deaths related to the virus to 84 608.
As of Friday, 6.8 million people have been fully vaccinated for Covid-19 and more than 14 million have received at least one jab.
