KZN south coast community mourns death of GBV activist

A
community on the KZN south coast is mourning the death of activist Hlengiwe
Gambushe, who was instrumental in the 2020 police investigation into the
uMthwalume serial rapist.
The Buyi Khumalo Foundation, an anti-GBV non-profit organisation, says the death of their colleague is a major loss for the community.
The 40-year-old passed away over the weekend after a short illness and will be laid to rest on Saturday.
The organisation's Bongiwe Ngcobo says Gambushe prioritised the fight against gender-based violence and assisted police daily to uncover the truth behind the multiple murders of women in a sugarcane field.

Alleged serial killer Mafutha Khomo took his own life in police custody.
"As many would already know she fought tooth and nail to take on perpetrators and to make sure that justice prevails for victims. She was a true activist who took advocacy work to greater heights within the Ugu District as a whole and even provincially in KZN.
"She was a very generous person, always welcoming and she stood by her truth."
