KZN Social Development says no need to abandon babies

The Department of Social Development in KZN has appealed to those who feel they aren't ready to be parents not to abandon their babies.

This after the body of a newborn baby boy was found dumped in a pit latrine in Sundumbili this week.
"It’s quite shocking that regardless of all systems in place that were introduced by the government, we find people breaking the law and doing such horrible things,” said the department's Mhlabunzima Memela.
Memela says people can turn to health practitioners for help, as there are options for those who can't look after their babies:
"We have encouraged communities that, should they find that now you have a child, an unwanted child, you can also engage with social workers in the hospital as well social workers in Social Development and put your child for adoption."
