KZN Social Development defends unspent funding
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
The Department of Social Development in KwaZulu-Natal says it's not completely at fault for failing to spend millions of rands from national government.

The department was slammed by the KZN Legislature's Scopa for its failure to fully spend some R87 million received from the Presidential Employment Initiative Fund.
The money was subsequently returned to national government.
Head of Department Nelisiwe Vilakazi says there were problems confirming some of the beneficiaries' personal details.

She says the contract between national government and the company hired to run the project also expired before the project could be completed.
"That process was very long, in a way that we would then come in at the end to process the payment.
"At some point, you would find that those who applied are not responding in terms of confirming the banking details and ID so that we are apply to pay them."
Vilakazi says more than R39 million has be given back to the province and will be allocated.
