KZN sees sharp rise in Covid-19 daily infections

KwaZulu-Natal has registered a worrying spike in daily Covid-19 infections.

There were 3 750 new cases that were picked up in the province in the last 24-hour cycle.
Nationally, 384 more people have died after they contracted the virus, bringing the pandemic death toll to 78 377.
KZN accounts for 25% of the new infections recorded in the country.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases says 14 728 people tested positive for coronavirus.

The main contributors were provinces like KZN, the Western Cape and Eastern Cape, where there has been an upward trend in cases.
The NICD’s head of public health surveillance says adherence to the current adjusted level 3 restrictions and preventative measures remain essential to combating the third wave.
Dr Michelle Groome has stressed that vaccination is key to mitigate a possible fourth Covid-19 wave, later this year.
She says they have boosted vaccine supplies to facilities adding that it is up to individuals to take the jab.
