Updated | By Lauren Beukes
A Ballito search and rescue team will be boarding a flight on Monday afternoon to the flood-ravaged Libyan city of Derna.
About a week ago, two dam walls burst after Storm Daniel hit the North African city.
Thousands of people have been killed, and thousands more remain missing.
Dylan Meyrick from IPSS Medical Rescue is coordinating the rescue mission and says the team consists of 12 members, with eight rescuers from IPSS joining four others from the Al-Imdaad Foundation.

"I don't know if anybody can prepare for what we are going to see. All of our team members are experienced; they have been involved with local floods and floods in Mozambique, but this is on a whole new scale, and it is going to be a life-changing experience for every single member of the team."
Meyrick says because of several travel restrictions to the area; the team will only be travelling with their personal rescue gear and necessities.
"We not as prepared as we would have liked to have been. We couldn't get charted flights, we are not taking all the equipment we would have liked to have taken, so we only taking personal rescue equipment, and we will do what we can."
