KZN school programme to offer alternatives to corporal punishment
Updated | By Puseletso Petersen, Jarryd Subroyen
The KZN Department of Education will launch a programme in schools across the province next month that will highlight other ways of keeping a level of discipline.

The announcement comes after video footage of a teacher hitting a pupil with a cane went viral on social media.
The deputy principal of Okumhlophe Secondary School in Umlazi - south of Durban was suspended yesterday.
Education HOD Vusumuzi Nzama also met with teachers and pupils at there - reminding staff that corporal punishment is illegal.

Nzama says the programme will target all provinces.
"That is going to be disseminated to all provinces, targeting teachers and also giving them alternative programmes," he said.
Nzama says social workers will provide affected pupils with counselling.
