KZN school playgrounds a crime hotspot: Ilembe mayor
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Schools in KwaZulu-Natal have become a playground for criminals.

That's the observation of the mayor of Ilembe District Municipality following an oversight visit to several schools there.
It was part of a Community Crime Imbizo held in KwaDukuza.
Locals expressed their worry that pupils have become easy targets for criminals, while some are lured into using and selling drugs.

Ilembe Mayor Thobani Shandu says they are implementing several measures to combat this.
"Schools are becoming a target from criminal activity. What we are doing to have constant crime awareness, we are going to have raids and we are going to bring the Department of Health and Home Affairs.
"We agreed that we are going to have a meeting where we will be checking progress in relation to what we are going and SASP committed to certain things as well."
