KZN Salga sends strong warning to public servants linked to crime

The South African Local Government Association in KZN has sent a strong warning to public servants linked to criminal activities that there will be consequences.

Its reacting to the arrest of three senior officials from the Nongoma Municipality, charged with theft, fraud and money laundering.


The trio was nabbed by the task team investigating political killings in the province four days ago.


The officials are municipal manager Mthandeni Zungu, chief financial officer Njabulo Dludla, and supply-chain manager Njabulo Manqele.

A bodyguard for one of the officials and his wife were also arrested.


The group appeared at a local magistrate's court on Monday attended by police minister Bheki Cele.


KZN Salga chairperson Thami Ntuli has lauded the law enforcement for their swift arrests.


"We hope that if the allegations have have brought them before court are founded. It will send a strong message at the end on the issue of the conviction."


They are all due back in court next month for a possible bail application.
