DA motion against Mapisa-Nqakula gets green light

A no-confidence against the Speaker of the National Assembly will go ahead.

Acting Speaker, Lechesa Tsenoli, has approved it.
The motion was submitted by DA Chief Whip, Siviwe Gwarube last week. She alleges improper conduct by Mapisa-Nqakula.
It came after Mapisa-Nqakula's Johannesburg home was raided as part of a probe into allegations she received bribes from contractors during her tenure as Defence Minister.

"This proposal was made in accordance with Section 54(2) of the Constitution," says Parliament's spokesperson, Moloto Mothapo.
"Section 54(2) of the Constitution states that the National Assembly may remove the Speaker or Deputy Speaker from office by a resolution, with a majority of National Assembly members present when the resolution is adopted.
"This section is enacted through Rule 28 of the National Assembly Rules."
Mapisa-Nqakula is challenging the search and seizure operation in court.
