KZN records highest road crashes, deaths over Easter weekend

KZN recorded the highest number of road crashes and fatalities over the Easter weekend.

Transport Minister, Fikile Mbalula has just released the preliminary figures.
"Eastern Cape, 22 crashes and 27 fatalities. In Free States there were 8 crashes and 13 fatalities, Gauteng we had 30 crashes and 36 fatalities."
"In KZN we had 42 crashes and 54 fatalities. In Limpopo, we had 27 crashes and 34 fatalities."

He says overall, 235 people lost their lives on the country's roads during the long weekend.
There were 189 crashes.

Nationally, crashes are down by 2.1% while deaths declined by 9.6%
This is compared to the 2019 Easter because the country was in a hard lockdown last year.
