KZN rains: Clean-up operations underway

Mop-up operations are underway in KZN following several days of severe weather - which brought heavy rainfall and snow.

Co-operative Governance MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube says a number of incidents were logged with their disaster management teams - including flash floods which affected both public infrastructure and private property.
The inclement weather, ushered in by a cold front, saw low temperatures, strong winds and heavy rainfall that caused localised flooding.
Snow was also reported in parts of the Drakensberg. Dube-Ncube says all reported incidents were attended to promptly by disaster management teams.

She says officials are still assessing the long-term impact of damages to roads, infrastructure and facilities.
She says her department will continue to offer assistance to affected communities.
Dube-Ncube says every new disaster tests her department's capabilities - improving their response to crises that's in terms of reaction times and relief packages.
