KZN premier's office hits back over Moerane report, seeks to 'clear amnesia'
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The Office of the Premier has hit back at claims that the provincial government has failed to implement recommendations to halt political killings in KwaZulu-Natal.

They were contained in the final report of the Moerane Commission, which looked into politically motivated murders and other related events in the province.
In its lengthy statement, the Premier's Office refers to claims that it's failed to act as "hallucinations bandied about" by political parties and the media.
In what it says is an attempt to clear the amnesia, the office goes on to list several areas where it says intervention has been undertaken.

These include tender revisions, which it says have been referred to provincial and national treasury with all tenders above R5 million now having to undergo assessments by Treasury before being awarded.
On the appointment of government functionaries and qualifications, the office says it's undertaken to audit all appointments of senior officials in the provincial government.
The Premier's Office also used the opportunity to take another swipe at media, saying it cannot take what opposition parties say as gospel.
It warns the media not to be used to push the narrative of the opposition.
