KZN Premier urges municipalities to aim for clean audits
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
Speaking at the Provincial Executive Committee Lekgotla in Durban, KZN Premier Willies Mchunu says it's a serious concern that some government departments and municipalities can't achieve a 100% clean audit.

Mchunu says the issue has been taken up with senior management at the Office of the Auditor-General.
"What is it that is holding us back from reaching this state. Why should we always have the majority of our audits being unqualified. With the issue of compliance, just address the skills level at some stage. If it is not the skills level then what is it?," he said.
He said his office is looking into the effectiveness of government programmes in addressing concerns raised by KZN communities.
"To what extent does the skills level within our public service contribute to the ineffectiveness of some of our good programmes, laws and strategies," he said.
Earlier this year, eThekwini, iLembe and uMgungundlovu were among the province's municipalities that were recognised for receiving clean audits.
In 2010, no municipalities achieved a clean audit.
