KZN Premier seeks financial aid from Treasury for security, learner transport
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
Willies Mchunu says unfunded mandates from national government are putting a strain on the province's budget.

The KZN Premier says a proposal by the president for Izinduna to be paid a salary of R7 000 - is one such example.
He says if the Izinduna have to be paid monthly, the province will not function properly as there won't be enough money for other services and programmes.
Mchunu also says KZN's border security - although not a provincial competency - has left KZN with financial constraints, as the security needs to be funded.
He says learner transport is another challenge, and has called on Treasury to help.
"It's an issue that has been raised by the Department of Transport for ages within the legislature that if we are to fund all of our children, every year, then the Department of Transport would have to not deliver roads and not deliver on public transport for other passengers," he said.
