KZN Premier promises a safer province ahead of the festive season
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
KZN Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube says a plan is in place to target rape and murder hotspots within the province.
"Using cameras, using other mechanisms and technology as you know we cannot succeed alone without working with the communities to stand against crime and to stand against those that perpetrate violence against woman, girls and children," said Dube-Ncube.
Dube-Ncube made the remarks at the KwaZulu-Natal Integrated Safety Month and Festive Season Campaign launch in Durban on Friday.
She urged residents to not turn a blind eye to gender based violence.
"We wish really to congratulate once more all our law enforcement agencies. We've seen the capabilities that you have as law enforcement agencies and we believe and trust that as you are here, law enforcement agencies, you have committed yourself to serve and in serving you are going to be having ourselves and leadership to walk with you."
Dube-Ncube was joined by Minister of Police Bheki Cele, MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Sipho Hlomuka, eThekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda and provincial police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
She said law enforcement agencies are tightening the grip on all forms of crime.
"The people of our province, visitors and business must rest assured that all law enforcement agencies working with stakeholders in KwaZulu-Natal are on board to ensure a safe, peaceful, and incident-free festive season.”
