KZN political killings a priority for Premier's Office

KZN Premier Willies Mchunu is calling on members of the public to come forward with information that could lead to the arrest of suspects in connection with political killings in the province.

Peace monitor, Mary de Haas released figures at the weekend - showing an additional 12 politically motivated killings have been recorded since an inquiry into the scourge was established.
A Commission of Inquiry, headed by Advocate Marumo Moerane, was established last year.
During the first round of public hearings, the Inquiry heard ethnic grouping are some of the triggers of violence in townships and hostels in the province - which is prevalent in hostel dwellings.

The premier's spokesperson Ndabazinhle Sibiya says the Premier's Office has prioritised the crime.
"The premier of the province, Willies Mchunu would like to ensure the people of KZN that the government will do everything in its power to ensure peace and stability. The premier is encouraging community members to come forward with information that will assist - giving us a sense of who is behind the political killings," he said.
