KZN police shoot, kill alleged rapist
Updated | By Nondumiso Zakwe

After receiving a complaint that a woman in her early twenties had been raped in eBhobhonono, near Edendale, on Saturday, police from Taylor’s Halt rushed to the scene.
According to a police source, who is not authorised to speak to the media, the two policemen found the suspect, who then put up a fight and ran away.
One of the police officers ran after him on foot, while the other followed in a police van. The police source said as they struggled to put the accused into the van, a police firearm went off, shooting and killing the suspect, who died at the scene.
“It all happened so fast.”
The policeman who allegedly fired the shot was arrested but released the same day.
Plessislaer Cluster police spokesperson Captain Musa Ntombela says a case has been opened and the matter is now with the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) for further investigations. Attempts to get comment from IPID were unsuccessful on Monday.
