KZN police monitoring Hammarsdale following protest action
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
KZN police are monitoring the Hammarsdale area outside Durban after violent protest action broke out and a Home Affairs vehicle was torched.
SAPS spokesperson, Thulani Zwane, says more than 100 protestors blocked the road at the Hammarsdale Junction over service delivery issues in the community recently.
"When police officers arrived at the scene they saw about 100 protesting and blocking the road with stones. It is further alleged that goods on trucks were offloaded making it difficult for others to use the road", he said.
Zwane says officers were deployed to the area immediately.
"A Home Affairs vehicle was also torched along with continers and other passing vehicles were damaged. Police have opened cases of Malicious damage to property", he said.
