Five of the seven suspects nabbed by detectives made their first appearance in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

It's been just over a year since the rapper and his former manager were shot dead outside a restaurant on Durban's Florida Road.

The accused, Lindokuhle Mkhwanazi, Eddie Myeza, Lindani and Lindokuhle Ndimande and Mziwethemba Gwabeni had already acquired private legal counsel before the case started.

The case has been postponed to March 6 for further investigation and bail verification.

"For every criminal sometimes, it is a person that is unemployed, to pitch up here and get represented by a very expensive lawyer it is concerning,” Mkhwanazi told reporters after the court appearance.

“It leaves a question whether these lawyers who are doing this thing want to make sure people get their rights or are they doing it for money? So we suspect the latter is the motive."

Police Minister Bheki Cele also attended court proceedings.

He said they would wait for the case to be finalised.

"Our wish is that our work is done properly so we know what really happened."
