"We were asking ourselves a question as to what made the minister to decide to suspend the team."

"We did not know until we found it from the suspect's phone. No, this thing came from December as a strategy to neutralize investigation against this," said Mkwanazi.

"This information has been given to the National Commissioner, he knows about it. He's the one who then can dispose it further to wherever it needs to go," he added.

Speaking at a press briefing in Durban this morning, Mkwanazi exposed what he described as deep-rooted corruption within the criminal justice system.

He alleges a coordinated plot — involving high ranking politicians and police generals — to remove the National Police Commissioner and disband the task team investigating political killings.

Mkwanazi claims criminal syndicates are behind the move and have been using their political influence to sabotage ongoing investigations.

"Mr. Brown Mgotosi sent a message to the Minister of Police, Senzo Mchunu, which reads as follows " The guy of the funding in Bracket 20 is also in Joburg from Tuesday."

"He's the one I said has a 3 billion contract with SAPS. So we ask ourself a question, is there a theory of conspiracy targeting senior officers involving the Minister of Police?"
