KZN parents urged to keep sick children at home amid Covid spike
Updated | By Andrew Robertson
Parents are again being urged not to send children showing coronavirus symptoms to school.
It comes after two pupils, from Ladysmith and Phoenix respectively, succumbed to Covid-19 complications.
The KZN Education Department has also confirmed there's been a spike in infections at schools in the province.
It says one of the reasons for the rise in cases is because some pupils with symptoms are not being kept at home.
The KZN Parents Association's Vee Gani says this puts other pupils and teachers at risk.
”I think that parents are conscientised enough and I think a lot of parents know that if their child, or their children, display any sign of symptoms that they are sick, for them not to send their children to school because naturally you don’t want to send a sick child to school.
“You don’t know if the child is Covid positive or not. I don’t think it's a widespread phenomenon but I do think there are cases where children have reported to school, perhaps as carriers of Covid, without them knowing.”
