Schooling at the Siphumelele High School - near Richards Bay got off to a bad start yesterday. Parents who're upset with the principal allegedly torched several classrooms on Tuesday night.

Committee chairperson Linda Hlongwa-Madlala says parents should explore non-violent ways of communicating their concerns.

"There is an easy way of dealing with issues that is to come to a meeting and say we want the principal to be removed but not burn properties.

"The department must replace those classrooms. We are making a clear-on call. Let's all be sober - education is the key to success and our futures. All must stand and rally behind education in this country," she said.

She's hopeful classes will resume at the school this morning. Police are investigating a case of arson.
