KZN officials seize illegal alcohol during border checks
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
Transport and Human Settlements MEC, Siboniso Duma, says officials will intensify their efforts to fight cross-border crime.
Counterfeit goods, including alcohol from Mozambique, were seized by authorities during a roadblock led by an all-women team in Jozini on Saturday.
Cars from neighbouring countries including Swaziland and Mozambique were targeted during the checks.
Duma says the area has been hit by a spate of robberies and hijackings. He says law enforcement teams are making progress in clamping down on incidents involving cross-border crimes.

"In the last seven months you will find it has gone down because of the role that has been played by the joint operation."
Duma says border controls need to be strengthened to prevent illegal immigration.
At least 18 people travelling without passports were detained on Saturday.
"We are dealing with the issue of immigration. We are told you must pay R300 at some point in time for you to get leeway. Why get into a country if it is like that?"
