A suspect wanted for several murders is due to appear in the Durban Magistrates Court this week.
The man who works as a regional organiser for a political party in northern KwaZulu-Natal was arrested at the Melmoth town hall last week during a party meeting.
The suspect allegedly stabbed a person to death in November last year. He then went into hiding.
The police's Jay Naicker says officers are also investigating his alleged link to murders at the KwaMashu Hostel.
"Her was arrested and taken to his home. During a search of the home, they found a licensed 9mm pistol in his possession. He was arrested by a detective and he's currently facing charges of murder," he said.
