KZN not experiencing heatwave despite soaring temperatures - SAWS
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
It's a sweltering day in KwaZulu-Natal, with temperatures expected to peak just below 40 degrees Celsius in parts of the province.
But the South African Weather Service says there's no heatwave warning.
The mercury in Margate, Durban Richards Bay and Ixopo is expected to reach 37 degrees on Monday afternoon.
Forecaster Wiseman Dlamini says the reason for the extreme heat is the berg winds.
He expects a cooler day on Tuesday.
"There is a low pressure north of us and the winds are coming from the interior in the north-westerly direction.
"Tomorrow, we are cooling down because there is more of a region high-pressure system coming through from the south coast with a cold wind and that will cause a significant cooling in temperatures."
