Vikizitha Mlotshwa has survived  the incident unharmed with 5 bullets piercing his vehicle at his home in Bergville's Okhahlamba Municipality.

Mlotshwa yesterday said that he would not attend the party's meeting held yesterday in Durban due to the current political situation. Provincial Chairperson Sabelo Sigudu says Mlotshwa is traumatised.

"We are not quite sure what may be the motive behind this shooting but we believe it is politically motivated considering that a few weeks ago some of our members were shot dead in their homes," he said.

"We are looking forward to the local government elections. He is doing well, even though he has postponed some of his commitments," Sigudu said.

Meanwhile in a separate incident police have launched an investigation into the killing of a 36-year old man who was shot multiple times on Hannaford Drive in Phoenix yesterday. Netcare 911's Athlende Mathe says by the time help arrived the victim had already died due to the gunshot wounds he sustained.

"We also found that one other person had been critically injured, but was transported privately to a nearby hospital. The 36 year-old man was declared dead on scene by Netcare 911 paramedics," she said.

Security company, Reaction Unit was on scene. Spokesperson, Prem Balram said according to unconfirmed reports 3 men arrived at a business premises on Hannaford Drive in a red Toyota Yaris and after an altercation drew weapons and opened fire.

Balram said 2 firearms, several live ammunition and spent cartridges were found on the scene. Police Spokesperson Thulani Zwane said a case of murder has been opened and that no arrest have been made as yet.
