KZN municipalities face cost-cutting measures

The African National Congress in KwaZulu-Natal says it is looking at ways to enforce strict cost-cutting measures within the over 50 municipalities in the province.
The party has been briefing the media on the outcomes of its Provincial Lekgotla held this weekend.
Provincial Secretary Sihle Zikalala says the focus will be on reducing government expenditure and improving service delivery by avoiding outsourcing services among other things.
''This should start by doing away with VIP services, such as catering for VIPs and holding rooms during government public events, trips to other countries where you see a number of officials attending that specific country for one activity,'' he said.
Last month the Democratic Alliance in KZN raised concerns over a delegation that travelled to Auckland for the announcement of the host city for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
The trip was reported to have cost over R300 000.
