KwaZulu-Natal COGTA MEC, Nomusa Dube-Ncube tabled a forensic report into allegations of irregularities, fraud and corruption at the municipality yesterday.

Dube-Ncube says the council now has 21 days to table the report before the full council, deal with specific details of the document and report back to her on remedial action.

COGTA says the report includes explosive details around alleged acts of financial misconduct by Supply Chain Management officials and former senior officials.

It says in one instance, an irregular appointment of a service provider for a vehicle fleet lease has cost the municipality R27.9-million.

Tender processes were allegedly flouted and fictitious documents submitted by the bidder were apparently overlooked by municipal officials.

Dube-Ncube says the report reveals shocking allegations by officials entrusted with translating policy programmes into tangible service delivery initiatives.

The MEC says she wants to see civil recoveries, criminal proceedings and disciplinary processes against all those implicated in the report.
