Updated | By Newswatch
A KwaZulu-Natal man has died after he was diagnosed with Lassa fever.
Health officials say he had extensively travelled in Nigeria before returning to South Africa.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases says he fell ill after arriving back in the country and was hospitalised in Pietermaritzburg.
Lab tests came back positive for the acute viral disease.
He later succumbed to the hemorrhagic fever.

The NICD says no secondary cases have been confirmed.
It says it's tracing and monitoring all possible contacts.
The animal-borne Lassa fever is endemic to West Africa, where around 300 000 cases and 5000 deaths are recorded annually.
