According to officers,  the driver is thought to have driven from Richards Bay after withdrawing a large sum of money.

He headed to Durban where it's believed he stopped at one of the car dealerships in Umhlanga.

The gunmen then allegedly  struck - firing shots at his vehicle and managing to take the money.

A bullet hole on the B pillar could be clearly seen from a fair distance.

The man managed to drive himself to the hospital where he was quickly attended to. Details around the extent of his injuries are not clear at this stage.

The hospital's management is expected to release a statement on Monday.
