The Durban High Court heard how Siphamandla Ngcobo plotted and carried out Bongekile Khema's shooting in the Quarry Heights area in 2019.

Prosecutors say there was a conflict surrounding tender processes and other irregularities in Ward 11, where Khema was the administrator and assistant to the ward councillor at the time.

Ngcobo and two accomplices went to Khema's tuckshop and opened fire on her.

A child who was playing nearby was struck in the chest and treated in hospital.

KZN NPA spokesperson Natasha Kara says cartridge cases found at the scene linked Ngcobo to the crime.
